Making Your Profile - Privacy Settings

 There are some Yuwie profile options that you should know about from the start. Your Yuwie profile privacy settings should be reviewed and set immediately after creating your Yuwie profile. To follow along, words in these brackets [link] are links that you need to click on to get to where you need to be to follow along. Let's get started.

 From the home page go to [Control Panel]. Once in the control panel, click on  the [ Yuwie Account Settings Gears Image ]image on the left hand side of the control panel. This will open the Yuwie account settings page. At this point, you go to [Privacy Settings]. Once you are at the privacy settings page you'll see several drop down multi-choice boxes. The privacy settings that you can change are:

  • Who can view your profile? {Everyone, Only Friends, Only Adults}
  • Who can send you a friend request? {Everyone, Only People I Know, Only Adults}
  • Who can leave you comments? {Everyone, Only Friends, Only Adults, No One}
Who can rate you? {Everyone, Only Friends, No One}
  • Approve comments before they are posted? {Yes, No}
  • Show your online status? {Yes, No}
  • Show your age? {Yes, No}
  • Notify friends of your birthday? {Yes, No}
  • Show your location? {Yes, No}
  • Who can invite you to clubs? {Everyone, Only Friends, Only Adults, No One}
  • Who can send you messages? {Everyone, Only Friends, Only Adults, No One}

 Now that you know which privacy settings options there are, let's go over the ones that are important. Allowing only your friends might be a good option if for some reason you want to share private information with only your friends.  Allowing only allowing people that know you to send friend invites is a very useful tool. Some people receive several requests every day. This can be a real problem if you check in once a week or so. Your inbox fills up very quickly and it is difficult to read the messages that are important.

 Allowing only your friends is also another useful tool. Some people can receive up to 50 comments in one day. By allowing only your friends to leave comments, you are assured to only receive quality comments. The one function that I recommend is to approve every comment before it is posted. This keeps people from leaving spam comments on your profile. Or even worse, someone leaving an inappropriate comment or image on your profile.

 Hiding your birthday and location are obviously appropriate if you don't want that information in the public domain. Hiding your online is sometimes a good idea if you have a couple of annoying friends you don't want to talk to. This is also a good function to reduce the amount of messages you receive. When you are shown as online, you tend to get more friend requests and comments than those show their status.

 Allowing only friends to invite you to clubs and to send you messages is also another way to cut down on the amount of messages you receive every day. I would suggest leaving this set to everyone until you start receiving a lot of messages everyday. Some times you receive messages or club invites that are fairly interesting or valuable. But you can decide what is best for you.

 So as you can see, there are a lot of Yuwie profile privacy settings. Set your privacy settings to what seems comfortable for you. You can always change them easily if you don't like how something is working out for you. Best of luck and stay safe online!
